A Rare Sight
Wednesday 12th March 2014 saw the reason for the influx of extra Colas 70's over the previous two days. 70803 and 70805 worked top and tail on an engineering train from Bescot to the long disused Walsall to Wednesbury line which, over many months, has seen work to create a run round loop for Freightliner coal trains to save them having to run into Bescot to run round. This work has been ongoing for a ages suffering various problems along the way. It appeared as if this train and associated track machines were just clearing debris from along the line.
Later on Monday 10th March 2014 another Colas 70 arrived at Bescot in the shape of 70803 on 6M50 Westbury to Bescot joining the already arrived 70802.
Seen here passing the assembled crowd of photographers
that had descended on the area during the day.
Bescot Station doesn't normally see that amount of people waiting for the Walsall service
after dropping the wagons off, 70803 ran onto the depot for fuel
every one assumed that 70803 would top 70802 on the balancing working back to Westbury later that evening but it was entrusted to 70802 alone with 70803 remaining at Bescot to await 70805 which arrived on the following day. They were to work an engineering train on the Wednesday.
After the influx of new Colas Class 70's on 6M50 the previous week, a new week dawned with another new example approaching the area. This time it was 70802 which was straight out of the box, running as 0Z70 Seaforth Docks to Bescot DG on Monday 10th March 2014.
Two of Bescot's former class 08's
have been dumped behind the station for a few weeks now.
08580 and 08709 are both missing parts and presumably are destined for the scrap man.
in contrast, 08907 has received a coat of DB red and gained a large Bescot depot sticker.

Seen from the train on 21st February 2014, Bescot Down Tower signal box begins to meet it's end. On the other side of the yard the unused Upside Points Box still stands, but for how long ? The former Bescot Steam Shed was demolished in January this year after standing derelict (apart from occasionally housing the breakdown crane or the odd shunt loco) since 1966.

Two Class 97's and two Class 60's sit in Bescot Upside Engineers Yard on the afternoon of Sunday 16th February 2014. 97304 + 97304 had worked a Cambrian ballast train into the yard and 60019+60035 had brought in an engineers train from Castle Bromwich during the morning. The Birmingham - Derby lines between Castle Bromwich and Landor Street are closed this week for upgrades and replacements of track and points etc, and a few engineers trains are working there which originate and return to Bescot.

Large-logo 47580 coupled with 57601 passes through Bescot on Sunday 22nd April with the returning 'Cornish Riviera Statesman Express', a long journey from Penzance to Lancaster. The following Monday evening one of the yellow departmental ex-Class 37s, 97303, headed a Cambrian-bound set of autoballasters from the engineers sidings through the station.

Although the train is hidden from view in this angle, here we have 47832 double-headed with 47790 working the Northern Belle exclusive train back to Birmingham International through Bescot early this evening. With the camera facing west the sun came through just when it wasn't needed....
Quite a few Class 66s were also littering the yard and depot, probably off weekend engineers trains.
